Noteworthy this week

  • Trump to slap EU with tariffs
  • EU nuclear support rises
  • Higher US inflation expectations
  • Deficit drives GDP
  • US ceasing to be a great power

Trump to slap EU with tariffs: President Trump says the US will impose 25% tariffs on autos and other things from the EU. What deal does he want with the EU?

EU nuclear support rises: Most EU citizens now support nuclear energy. Compared to the same survey in 2021, the positive attitude toward nuclear has increased by 10 ppts across the EU.

Higher US inflation expectations: Americans expect inflation to reach 3.5% over the next 5-10 years, the highest reading in 30 years.

Deficit drives GDP: In the past 2 years in the OECD, deficit is correlated with growth. Run a higher deficit to grow GDP. Maybe GDP isn’t that great of a KPI.

US ceasing to be a great power: “Ferguson’s Law states that any great power that spends more on debt service than on defense risks ceasing to be a great power.”

“Most people look for wealth in all the wrong places. From dropshipping and startups to grinding for promotions, you might believe you have to trade your life to be one of the few who win. But the truly rich know these paths are paved with delusion and false promises.”
