The end of the US$ is not near: The US Dollar is now used in 49.1% of global payments, the highest level in over 12 years.

Luxury brand power: A Christian Dior handbag apparently costs a few hundred euros to manufacture, yet it sells for nearly €6,000 (2x more than in 2016). That’s the power of branding for you!

Milei brings prosperity: JP Morgan has raised its estimate of Argentina’s GDP growth in the third quarter to 8.5%, one of the highest in the world, citing optimism around recent reforms by President Milei.

DEI for hostility, authoritarianism, and extremism: “ertain DEI practices could induce hostility, increase authoritarian tendencies, and foster agreement with extreme rhetoric.”

Korean demographic collapse: As of 2024, the fertility rate in South Korea is 0.68 births per woman. At that rate, the number of living children in Korea falls to 1m from 6m in just two generations.

Book recommendation

How to Think Like Socrates: Ancient Philosophy as a Way of Life in the Modern World by Donald J. Robertson

“Socrates is the quintessential Athenian philosopher, the source of the entire Western philosophical tradition, and Godfather to the Stoics. He spent his life teaching practical philosophy to ordinary people in the streets of Athens, yet few people today are familiar with the wisdom he has to offer us.”
