Noteworthy this week

  • AI needs a lot of energy
  • Intra-day tariff, ever heard about it?
  • China builds >50% of ships
  • Private capital – low risk, high return
  • It’s different this time

AI needs a lot of energy: It takes AI as much energy to answer a question as it takes to charge a smartphone fully. Even assuming AI becomes more energy efficient, the demand will likely become massive.

Intra-day tariff, ever heard about it?: Me neither, but now we have.

China builds >50% of ships: >95% of ships are built in Asia. China accounts for over 53% of global shipbuilding.

Private capital – low risk, high return: At least if you’d like to delude yourself in the same way as many endowments and pension funds do. The low volatility of private investments is because they are not priced regularly and transparently.

It’s different this time: It is doubtful that it will be different this time and that forecasts will turn out accurate. What do you think will happen with interest rates in the US?

Book recommendation

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

“Set in 19th-century Russia, The Brothers Karamazov is a passionate philosophical novel that enters deeply into questions of God, free will, and morality. It is a theological drama dealing with problems of faith, doubt, and reason in the context of a modernizing Russia, with a plot that revolves around the subject of patricide.”
